Fresh rodent droppings found at Nomar International Market in Witchita during failed inspection

The Kansas of Agriculture’s Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratory Services conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on January 3, 2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Nomar International Market was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Kansas food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 3 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • In the hot holding case, there were about 12 pounds of fried pork skins and 8 dozen of packaged tamales with chicken and pork. Partner/Owner stated that they buy the cooked food products from “La Tienda del sur”. I explained to the partner/owner that the fried pork skins and the cooked tamales would get embargoed until further notice. Partner/Owner stated that he did not want to do that he was just going to throw it. (COS)Told owner/partner that food product bought from “La tienda del sur” was going to get embargoed.Owner/Partner declined and discarded cooked foods.
  • In the meat department, there were 26 containers of green salsa and 16 red salsa with no date marks. The salsas were prepped on 1/1/2020. (COS)PIC placed proper date mark.
  • In the back of the refrigerator next to the bakery, there were 11 fresh rodent droppings and in the dried storage room where the produce room is there were 7 fresh rodent droppings. Establishment called pest control on 1/2/2020. PIC stated they will call pest control again.
