Dollar General in Wichita fouls state inspection; over 100 fresh mouse droppings on floor and metal shelf in storage room

The Kansas of Agriculture’s Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratory Services conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 2/13/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Dollar General was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Kansas food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 4 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • In the canned food aisle, a can without a label was on the retail shelf for sale. COS-PIC discarded the unlabeled can
  • On the can goods aisle the following cans had several dents along the side seam: 1 Clover Valley Sweetened Condensed Milk 14 oz., 1 Clover Valley Crushed Tomatoes 28 oz. COS-PIC moved dented cans to return area.
  • In the storage room on the far east wall, over 50 fresh mouse droppings on the floor. On the West side of the storage room, on a metal shelf, over 50 fresh mouse droppings.
  • On shelves in the retail chemical storage area, dish soap, fabric softener, and other liquid chemicals were stored above single serve items. COS-PIC moved the single serve items to top shelves and chemicals for retail sale to the lower shelves.
