The Kansas of Agriculture’s Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratory Services conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 2/26/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations The Burg & Barrel Overland Park was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Kansas food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 4 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • In the refrigerated unit under the grill, sliced cheddar cheese was held at 46 F. Person in charge said cheese was brought out at 12:00 PM, <4 hours. Corrected on site: cheese was moved to another cooler for rapid chilling. In the refrigerated located by the grill, raw salmon temperature was 47 F, and goat cheese was 44 F. Person in charge said items were in the refrigerator over night. Air temperature of refrigerator was 42 F. Salmon and goat cheese were stored closer to the door. Other items temperature were in compliance. Corrected on site: items were voluntarily discarded. In the refrigerator located close to the ice machine in the back, two bottles of prepared on site ranch dressing were held 44 F. Person in charge said they move the bottles to this refrigerator one hour ago. Air temperature of refrigerator was between 41 F on the top closer to the fan, and 47 F on the middle and bottom of the refrigerator. Corrected on site: moved dressing bottles to another refrigerator for rapid cooling. Repair person was called to work on the refrigerator.
  • The mounted can opener had sticky debris on the food contact surface. Corrected on site: can opener was moved to be washed.
  • In the kitchen area, on the floor by the two-door refrigerator, there was one live adult cockroach. Cockroach moved under the refrigerator. Inspector wasn’t able to take a picture. Inspector observed two small live flying insect, one around the refrigerated make table and one around the dish washing area.
  • At the front by the bar a bucket with a clear liquid was not labeled. In the back close to the going to the grill area, a bucket with a clear liquid was not labeled. On a shelf under the grill, a bucket with a clear liquid was not labeled. Clear liquid was checked to be sanitizing solution in all three buckets. Corrected on site: buckets were labeled.
