Kansas Department of Agriculture’s food safety and lodging program conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 8/18/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Walmart was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Kansas food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 10 violations were found.
The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:
- On the retail produce side, there was a package of cherry tomatoes present with mold. COS removed from retail. Located in the deli reach in cooler, there was a loaf of bologna with not date marking. Person in charge said she did not know when the bologna was opened. COS discarded
- On the retail side Isle 10, there was 1 can of soup, 9 cans of pinto beans, 1 can of black beans, 1 can of chickpeas and 1 can of jalepeno’s with Class II dents. On the retail side in Isle 9, there was a can of Coconut water and a can of Menudo with Class II dents. On the retail side in Isle 7, there were 4 cans of whole kernel corn and 1 can of sliced pineapple with Class II dents. On the retail side in there produce area, there was an open seal on a pre-packaged salad mix. COS All cans removed from retail
- Located at the meat department in the retail side, there was a package of raw ground turkey over raw pork rib tips. COS Separated.
- In the deli reach in cooler, there was a zip-lock bag of corned beef dated for 8/25. Corned beef was open today and date marked for 8 days as per employee. COS Labeled
- In the deli reach in cooler, there was a zip-lock bag of Oven Roasted Turkey that had an expire date of 8/16. COS discarded
- Located in the deli area, there was a meat/cheese slicer with dried food debris on the bottom. Employee said they don’t use slicer anymore. COS Cleaned and discarded plastic container.
- -Employee at the deli ware washing area put container in sanitizer without submerging for 30 seconds before use. COS Put container back in sanitizer
- At the bakery hand washing sink, the water temperature was at 73F. Person in charge put in a work order and told employee’s to use back handwashing sink next to walk in cooler. COS fixed temperature 108F
- In the back produce walk in cooler, there was a bottle of degreaser stored next to a case of ready to eat broccoli and a case of ready to eat squash. In the back pick up area, there was a bottle of degreaser stored next to ready to eat Smarties candy. COS Moved degreaser.
- In the back produce walk in cooler, there was a bottle of degreaser stored above raw ready to eat cilantro and raw ready to eat Parsley. COS moved degreaser.
